Lasik Eye Surgery Explained by Your Muskogee Optometrist
Looking for a Muskogee optometrist who can see if you're right for Lasik eye surgery? You've come to the right place! Dr. Glenn Baggs and our staff will work with you to see whether Lasik is right for you. Then we'll refer you to a qualified eye surgeon and help take care of your eyes once the surgery is done.
What is Lasik?
Laser eye surgery repairs your vision by reshaping the curvature of your cornea. It reshapes cornea that is too flat (nearsighted), too curved (farsighted), or that focus unevenly (astigmatism).
Who Would be a Good Candidate for Eye Surgery?
Lasik is great for anyone who finds wearing glasses cumbersome or finds contact lenses inconvenient or irritating. People who especially benefit from it include especially active people, swimmers, sports enthusiasts, allergy sufferers, and anyone who likes to keep life simple!
How Our Optometrists can Determine if You're a Good Candidate
To determine if you are a good candidate for eye surgery, your eye doctor will take into account a number of factors. These include:
- The degree of Refraction Error. Patients with low to moderate refraction problems usually see the most success from eye surgery.
- Your Lifestyle. Many sports enthusiasts don't want to bother with glasses or contact lenses. For most active lifestyles, Lasik is a great choice! If you are a boxer, martial artist, or otherwise take regular blows to the head or face, laser eye surgery may not be for you.
- Eye Health. Your eye health is our number one concern! Your eye doctor Dr. Baggs will make sure you don't have any eye or other health conditions that might complicate eye surgery for you.
- Other Factors. We'll discuss other factors, from your insurance to your age to your expectations, to determine if Lasik is the right procedure for you.
Laser Surgery Referrals
If you are a good candidate for laser eye surgery and want to continue, we'll refer you to an ophthalmologist for surgery. We'll work with you to place you with an eye doctor who is covered by your insurance. We'll also keep in touch with this referral to make sure all is well with you and your eye health.
Lasik After Care from Your Local Muskogee Optometrist
We'll make sure to schedule follow-up appointments after your surgery. Usually, the first appointment is the very next day. We'll examine your eyes to make sure everything is fine, and prescribe eye drops if you need them (dryness is common--but short-lived--after eye surgery). Then we'll schedule appointments over the next six months to ensure your eyes stay healthy.
